At St Thomas of Canterbury we believe Mathematics is important for a number of reasons.  Mathematics provides children with a way of viewing and making sense of the world. It can be used to analyse and communicate ideas and information effectively and to tackle a range of practical tasks and real life problems.

Through our mathematics lessons, the children develop key ideas, skills and concepts. The ability to think logically and reason mathematically is key and a skill that we promote by providing regular opportunities to use and apply their mathematical knowledge through investigation and practical work. Lessons are appropriately differentiated to cater for all abilities and children are always given the opportunity to relate mathematical skills to real life.
