Inclusion
St. Thomas of Canterbury Catholic Primary School is an inclusive school where we focus on the well-being and progress of every child. All pupils receive the provision they need in order to access the very best, high quality education, whatever their age, gender, ethnicity, impairment, attainment and background.
Our commitment to inclusion can be seen in the school policies where inclusion is embedded, in teaching and learning and in our school developments plans, where all learners are considered and provided for within the school community as part of everyday good practice.
Our aim is to work in a positive partnership with parents to ensure the best outcomes for all children.
Please see below for our more information on our Inclusive approach.
Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)
At St Thomas of Canterbury Catholic Primary school, the special educational needs and disabilities of children are identified through observation, assessment and discussions with parents/carers/previous school records and health agencies, for example, GP, school nurse etc. Class Parents/carers are consulted at every stage and invited to attend meetings with the SENCO (Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator) and support services.

English as an Additional Language (EAL)
The term EAL (English as an Additional Language) is used when referring to pupils whose main language at home is a language other than English. At St Thomas of Canterbury Catholic Primary School, we celebrate children’s differing cultures, backgrounds and languages. The School values the contribution which all children make in bringing their culture and language to enrich the School environment. We value and respect cultural diversity, recognise the positive benefits of bilingualism and believe that all children have the right to equal opportunity of access to the curriculum.
