Towards the end of reception the children have a carefully planned programme of activities to enable a smooth transition in to Year 1. During their first term, the children continue their learning through carefully planned lessons and activities. There is a strong emphasis on the teaching and learning of phonics and reading. Children have daily phonics lessons, following the Letters and Sounds scheme of work which is supplemented by Jolly Phonics. We follow the Oxford Reading Tree reading scheme throughout the school. At the end of Year 1 the children will be assessed on their Phonic knowledge.

Throughout Key Stage 1, children continue to experience a rich and stimulating curriculum building on their prior knowledge to ensure they are fully prepared for the end of Key Stage 1 SATs tests and reach their full potential.

Our Key Stage 1 Phase Leader is Mrs Scanlon.
